Saudi Arabia Leads Digital Cooperation Event at UN Forum

Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, co-chaired the “Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development” event alongside Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.

The event was hosted by the UN Group of Friends for Digital Cooperation in collaboration with the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. It took place on the sidelines of the UN Science, Technology, and Innovation Forum in New York.

In his opening remarks, Alwasil highlighted the growing role of digital innovation as a catalyst for economic growth, social inclusion, and sustainable development. He pointed to Saudi Arabia’s advancements in digital infrastructure, data systems, and innovation, as well as ongoing initiatives to improve quality of life under Vision 2030.

He also emphasized the importance of global digital cooperation in narrowing the digital divide and enabling developing nations to harness modern technologies. Saudi Arabia’s support for the UN Group of Friends for Digital Cooperation and the DCO, he noted, reflects its strong commitment to multilateral collaboration in advancing sustainable development goals.

Alwasil further underscored the need to foster supportive environments for digital transformation through effective policies, strategic investments, and capacity-building initiatives—efforts that are key to accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
