US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he has held “productive discussions” with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as part of his efforts to end the war in Ukraine, according to Reuters.
“We’re working on the Russia situation, Russia and Ukraine, and hopefully we’re going to get it,” Trump said in an interview on Fox News’ “The Sunday Briefing.”
“I do speak with him (Putin), and I also speak with President Zelenskyy—and the conversations are positive,” he added, without specifying when the discussions with either leader took place.
Trump also described the hostility between Putin and Zelenskyy as ridiculous and crazy, saying such hatred complicates efforts to reach a settlement, “but it’ll happen.”
He had repeatedly pledged to put an end to the war, sparked by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Despite more than a year having passed since the start of his second term, the conflict remains unresolved.
