Official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced that the US Embassy in Riyadh was struck by two drones, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
The initial assessments indicated that the strikes sparked a limited fire and caused minor material damage to the building.
No injuries were reported, two people familiar with the matter said, noting that the building was unoccupied in the early morning hours.
The US mission in Riyadh urged its citizens in the capital as well as the cities of Jeddah and Dhahran to shelter in place.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East, according to Reuters.
In response, Iran has been launching a wave of counterattacks in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
Saudi Arabia confirmed on Saturday that Iran launched strikes against Riyadh and its Eastern Province.
In response, it warned it reserves the right to defend itself, including by retaliating, while describing the attack as “blatant and unjustified aggression.”
