US University Removes Iranian Official Larijani’s Daughter from Faculty Staff

Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta unveiled that Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani, daughter of senior Iranian official Ali Larijani, is no longer employed at the university, according to Al Arabiya.

The student-run school newspaper said that Emory Dean Sandra Wong confirmed that an email circulated to medical school faculty on Jan. 24 announced the departure of the daughter of a senior Iranian government official from the university’s staff.

Accordingly, Larijani’s faculty profile and Emory Healthcare pages were no longer accessible as of Jan. 24.

“Before her departure from Emory, Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani was an assistant professor in the department of hematology and medical oncology at the medical school,” the Emory Wheel reported.

This move followed sweeping protests in Iran, which left thousands dead, as well as demonstrations by Iranian-American activists outside Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute opposing the doctor’s employment.

On January 15, Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was sanctioned by the United States alongside other officials.

Washington has accused him of orchestrating the crackdown and urging the use of force against protesters.

Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, said that security forces in Fars “have killed countless peaceful demonstrators,” leaving hospitals so overwhelmed with gunshot wound patients that they can no longer admit other patients.

“The United States stands firmly behind the Iranian people in their call for freedom and justice,” Bessent said in a statement, noting that the action was taken at President Donald Trump‘s direction.
