253 historical sites registered in Asir and Hail

As part of its efforts to discover and document archaeological sites, Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Authority has added 253 new archaeological and historical sites to the National Antiquities Register.

According to the authority’s CEO, Dr. Jasser Al-Harbash, the archaeological sites that have been authorized for registration include (141) sites in the Asir region and (112 sites in the Hail region).

Structures and architectural structures of various styles, as well as a great number of inscriptions, drawings, ancient rock markings dating back to the prehistoric period, and some Islamic inscriptions and writings, are all represented in the discoveries.

He also stressed that the authority is taking rapid steps toward documenting historical and archaeological sites in various regions of the Kingdom, registering them in the National Antiquities Register, and archiving and digitizing them.

It is noteworthy that the Heritage Authority based its registration of archaeological sites discovered in the regions of Asir and Hail on the second paragraph of Article 8 of the Law of Antiquities, Museums and Urban Heritage
