UNA-OIC Approves Draft Resolutions to Strengthen Islamic Media Collaboration

The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA-OIC) convened its 26th executive council meeting today in a virtual format. The session was chaired by Ali bin Abdullah Alzaid, Acting Chairman of the council, who also serves as President of the General Assembly and Acting President of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Attendees included OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha and other council members.
In his opening remarks, Alzaid underscored the need for a transformative approach to adapt to the evolving media landscape. He stressed that both the nature of media and its business models must undergo significant changes to keep pace with global advancements. Alzaid highlighted the union’s pivotal role in driving initiatives focused on digital transformation and modernizing media content production processes.
OIC’s Media Initiatives
Secretary-General Taha commended the union for its notable progress and achievements in recent years. He praised the media projects launched to bolster the OIC’s media initiatives and enhance the infrastructure of news agencies across member states.
Ahmed Assaf, General Supervisor of Official Media for the State of Palestine, acknowledged the remarkable strides made by UNA-OIC under its current leadership. He also expressed gratitude for the union’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
Mohammed bin Abdul Rabbo Al-Yami, UNA-OIC Director-General, reiterated the importance of aligning efforts with the aspirations of member states in advancing the media sector.
During the meeting, the executive council approved the union’s final accounts and budget for 2025. Several draft resolutions were also endorsed, all aimed at fostering greater collaboration in Islamic media. These resolutions will be presented to the organization’s General Assembly for further consideration.
