Trump Vows to ‘Blow Up’ Iranian Gas Field if Qatar Attacked Again

US President Donald Trump issued on Thursday a chilling warning to Tehran, threatening to “massively blow up” the entirety of Iran’s South Pars gas field. This ultimatum followed a series of Iranian retaliatory strikes against Qatari energy infrastructure, which caused extensive damage to the world’s largest LNG facility.

The regional conflict intensified after an unconfirmed Israeli strike targeted Iran’s South Pars site on Wednesday. Consequently, Tehran launched missiles at Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial area, despite Doha having no involvement in the initial Israeli military operation.

President Trump clarified his position in a strongly-worded statement, asserting that “Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved” with the attack. He warned that any further aggression against Qatari soil would trigger a level of American power that “Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”

Markets Shudder as Tensions Peak

Energy markets reacted violently to the instability, sending oil prices leaping to nearly $110 a barrel within hours. Furthermore, wholesale gas prices in Europe more than doubled as investors feared a total blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatari officials described the Iranian strikes as “brazen” and a “direct threat to national security and regional stability.” In a decisive diplomatic move, the Qatari government ordered two Iranian diplomats and their staff to leave the country immediately.

While the US President expressed reluctance to authorize such high-level destruction, he remained firm on protecting Gulf allies. He noted the “long-term implications” of blowing up the massive offshore field but prioritized the security of Qatari LNG exports.

Meanwhile, the UAE and Oman joined Qatar in condemning the initial “irresponsible” targeting of energy sites. The Iranian side continues to pursue escalatory policies that push the entire Middle East toward a dangerous and unpredictable abyss. Qatar now reserves its full right to respond to these unjustified attacks on its sovereign territory and critical economic assets.
