The Kingdom is fighting terrorism’s ideology: Prince Turki Al-Faisal
Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, revealed that the Kingdom supports the establishment of the UN Counter-Terrorism Center in 2012, and added another $100 million to support the center in 2014.
In 2015 the Kingdom supported the Islamic Coalition to Combat Terrorism, Which has more than 40 members, and in 2017, Saudi Arabia called for the formation of an international coalition to confront ISIS, and in the same year, King Salman bin Abdulaziz inaugurated the Etidal Center to combat extremism.
During the virtual symposium organized by the Center in cooperation with the UN Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT) – at the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) – under the slogan “Resisting Violent Extremism through Strategic Communication”, Prince Turki Al-Faisal stressed the importance of countries working together to combat threats and refute opinions and beliefs extremism.
He also stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always been a reliable partner in the fight against terrorism, and is a globally known leader in establishing institutions, institutes, and centers responsible for combating extremism. It worked with governmental, international organizations, and led with the UN on many initiatives and occasions the efforts to combat terrorism.
During the opening of the first session, the Director of the UN Center for Counter-Terrorism, Dr. Jahangir Khan, said that the UN Counter-Terrorism Center launched a global program to assist governments to combat violent extremism in the name of religion. This program is fully funded by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He added: We are currently seeking to develop a memorandum of understanding between the UN Center and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies to develop a strategic partnership to combat violent extremism.
