Heavy rains typically fall in Sudan between May and October, resulting in dangerous floods that damage the housing, infrastructure, and crops.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated that rain and floods have affected approximately 38,000 people across Sudan since the beginning of the season.

According to OCHA, approximately 314,500 people in Sudan were affected during the rainy season in 2021.

The floods have caused the most damage in Sudan’s Nile State in the north, Kassala in the east, South Kordofan, and South Darfur in the west.
