The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) participated in the 2024 Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP 2024), held in Miami, Florida, from November 12-16, 2024.
As part of its participation, SDAIA presented two scientific papers, exploring new horizons in the fields of data and artificial intelligence (AI), as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The EMNLP 2024 brought together around 3,500 AI researchers and scientists from across the world who presented more than 2,300 research papers.
On this occasion, the CEO of SDAIA’s National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), Yaser Al-Onaizan, who co-chaired the Scientific Committee at the conference, said that SDAIA’s first paper was titled “A systematic survey and critical review of the evaluation of large language models: challenges, limitations, and recommendations.”
The paper emphasized that Large Language Models (LLMs) have various capabilities but need thorough evaluation to ensure the reliable performance in real-world applications.
Meanwhile, the second scientific paper was titled “Exploring compatibility in multilingual shared spaces,” according to Al-Onaizan. It showed that multilingual models have the ability to understand differences between languages.
SDAIA’s participation in the EMNLP 2024 highlights the authority’s efforts to support researchers, foster the value of scientific research in data and AI, and open broader horizons for research, development and innovation. This paves the way for Saudi Arabia to establish its position as a global leader among AI-based economies, Al-Onaizan said.
