Saudi Physics Team Wins 5 Awards at 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad

Saudi Arabia won five global awards at the 24th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) 2024. The event, held in Kampar, Malaysia, featured 208 students from 27 countries from June 3 to 10, 2024.

The Saudi physics team, which included 8 students, won a bronze medal and four certificates of appreciation.

The Secretary-General of “Mawhiba” Foundation, Dr. Amal Al-Hazzaa, congratulated the award-winning students. She also expressed pride in the talented Saudis who worked hard to achieve these honorable results and wonderful achievements, supported by their teachers.

Al-Hazzaa said: The Kingdom has taken strategic steps to nurture talent and creativity, shaping a knowledge and innovation society. Moreover, this effort upholds competitiveness and enhances leadership, as shown by the global awards won by talented Saudis in international competitions.

Partnership, Vision of “Mawhiba” Foundation

Al-Hazzaa stressed that the “Mawhiba” Foundation is based on a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education. Moreover, their vision focuses on discovering, nurturing, and empowering talented Saudis using the latest scientific methods. They aim to build capabilities in various fields of science and technology to prepare Saudi generations for excellence. This will also contribute to achieving the goals of Vision 2030 and creating innovative solutions to local and global challenges for humanity’s prosperity.

With this achievement, the Kingdom’s tally of awards won by the Saudi team in the Olympics rose to 16. The Saudi team had previously won 11 awards in the Asian Physics Olympiad, including two medals and nine certificates of appreciation.

The Asian Physics Olympiad is a regional competition for Asian countries, which often achieve top positions in the International Physics Olympiad. The first edition was held in 2000 in Indonesia with 12 countries participating.
