Saudi FM Heads Delegation to OIC Summit in Gambia

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah arrived Saturday in Gambia to head the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the fifteenth session of the Islamic Summit Conference (OIC), reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Foreign Minister is visiting the Gambian capital, Banjul to take part in the OIC’s summit themed “Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development”.

Prince Faisal will hand over the presidency of the current session to Gambia as Saudi Arabia has headed the 14th session.

The session will bring together leaders and representatives of member states of the OIC to discuss certain issues that concern the Islamic states, primarily the Palestinian Cause and latest development of Gaza War.

The summit has four goals:

  • Strengthening unity while collectively addressing the pressing challenges of the nation.
  • Expanding cooperation and solidarity among member countries to achieve the mutual goals.
  • Expanding the domestic economy and revitalize small and medium enterprises.
  • Taking the opportunity to share the wealth of Gambian and African culture with the world.

Furthermore, Gambia, under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, has earmarked on a range of landmark developments to prepare for this historic event and ensure memorable experience for the delegation.

Gambian Officials stated that dialogue is the only way to face the difficulties, overcome the challenges, and guarantee sustainable human development and prosperity for all.

“We need increased solidarity, cooperation and coordination of efforts while building mutual trust between and among ourselves as brothers and sisters facing similar challenges and issues,” said Mr. Lang Yabou, the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.
