Saudi karate player, Tariq Hamdi, presented his country with the first medal at the Summer Olympics currently being held in Tokyo.
Hamdi, 23, won silver in +75 kg, after losing in the final against Iranian Sajjad Ganjzadeh.
Hamdi lost the final match after he committed a technical error “Hansuko” when he was ahead of his opponent 4-1.
This is the second silver medal for Saudi Arabia in the history of its participation in the Olympics, after the silver runner Hadi Sawan in the 400-meter hurdles at the Sydney 2000 Games.
