Saudi Arabia Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire, Urges Lasting Peace

Saudi Arabia welcomed the Gaza ceasefire agreement on Thursday, praising Qatar, Egypt, and the United States for their mediation efforts. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of adhering to the ceasefire terms. These include halting Israeli aggression, ensuring the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and other occupied territories, and facilitating the safe return of displaced Palestinians to their homes.

Addressing the Root Causes of Conflict

Saudi Arabia stressed the need to build on the agreement to resolve the underlying issues of the conflict. The Kingdom reiterated its support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Additionally, the Kingdom expressed hope that the ceasefire would end the brutal Israeli war, which has claimed over 45,000 lives and injured more than 100,000 people. Saudi Arabia called for immediate humanitarian aid to address the catastrophic conditions in Gaza.

A Vision for Sustainable Peace

Saudi Arabia’s stance aligns with its broader vision for regional stability. The Kingdom urged the international community to remain committed to safeguarding Palestinian rights and ensuring a just and lasting peace.

However, with the ceasefire set to begin on January 19, Saudi Arabia remains optimistic about its potential to pave the way for broader peace efforts. The Kingdom continues to advocate for a two-state solution and the reconstruction of Gaza.

This ceasefire marks a critical step toward ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and achieving a sustainable resolution to the conflict. Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for peace and justice underscores its role as a key player in the region.
