Saudi Arabia to prepare 58 tunnels and 59 bridges in Mecca for Hajj
The network of tunnels and bridges in Mecca and the Holy Sites serves as a vital backbone for traffic circulation, connecting the Holy Capital’s areas and neighbourhoods with its primary and ring roads.
In this regard, the spokesman for the Secretariat of the Holy Capital, Raad Al-Sharif, told Al-Arabiya.net that there are 58 tunnels in Mecca and the holy sites.
“The concerned departments in the secretariat have completed their preparations and raised their efficiency, and are ready to receive the pilgrims, including control stations, ventilation fans, and pumps for the firefighting system, backup generators, moisture and gas sensors and vision devices,” he said.
He informed that 59 bridges were also equipped, including 20 with a length of 6.6 km and a surface area of 255,000 square meters. The Municipality supervises the operation and maintenance of all elements of this network through a specialized technical staff to provide the best services to pilgrims and create all conditions that guarantee their comfort and tranquillity.
