Saudi Arabia Takes Part in IYRP 2026 NENA Regional Conference in Tunisia

Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), participated in the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) 2026 NENA Regional Conference, held in Hammamet, Tunisia. The conference was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with regional and international partners.

The NCVC delegation joined high-level discussions with ministers and senior officials from across the region, focusing on policies related to rangeland governance and sustainability. The delegation also contributed scientific and technical expertise during sessions on mainstreaming biodiversity in rangeland management and shared Saudi Arabia’s experiences and innovations in research and innovation for sustainable rangeland management.

In addition, the delegation highlighted national initiatives and achievements in regulating grazing and rehabilitating natural rangelands, showcasing videos and posters that documented major milestones, including Guinness World Records accomplishments.

This participation reflects Saudi Arabia’s prominent role in advancing environmental issues at both regional and international levels, particularly in light of its COP16 Presidency under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and its current chairmanship of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission for the Near East and North Africa.

NCVC Restores 4.7 Million Hectares of Floodplains, Meadows to Promote Sustainability

NCVC noted that this engagement aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives to foster a thriving environment and promote sustainable development. It also demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting rangelands and pastoralists, enhancing ecosystem sustainability, safeguarding natural resources, strengthening food security, and combating desertification.
