Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Alkhorayef, inaugurated a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility and several new production lines at medical supplies plants during a tour of the first, second, and third industrial cities in Jeddah Governorate. The initiatives support the localization of priority industries and reinforce the Kingdom’s health and pharmaceutical security objectives.
Among the projects launched was a pharmaceutical factory dedicated to producing intravenous solutions, eye drops, and cardiac and emergency medications. With an annual capacity of 450 million units, the facility represents an investment of SAR650 million, with 30% of its output earmarked for export.
The minister also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of a medical supplies factory valued at SAR220 million, aimed at meeting growing domestic demand while boosting regional export capacity.
Additionally, a new production line was inaugurated at a health consumer products facility, supported by a SAR60 million investment. The line is expected to produce 30 million units annually, with 85% of output destined for export to GCC markets, East Asia, and North Africa.
Saudi Arabia hosts the Middle East’s largest pharmaceutical market, valued at more than SAR50 billion. Between 2019 and 2024, the sector expanded by 41%, with the number of pharmaceutical factories rising to 58 and medical device manufacturers reaching 176—an increase of more than 300%—driven largely by government support led by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources.
