Saudi Arabia Soars to Top 10 in Global Health Coverage

Saudi Arabia is making significant strides in international health, with recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank show a notable acceleration in the Kingdom’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) index over the past two decades. This progress is driven by the comprehensive health transformation outlined in Vision 2030, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Saudi Arabia has achieved a score of 83 points in the latest UHC service coverage index, marking a nine-point rise in just two years. This impressive performance places the Kingdom among the top ten countries with high health coverage. Furthermore, this achievement reinforces Saudi Arabia’s standing among the most advanced G20 and global nations, directly supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.8.

Life expectancy has soared from 74 years in 2016 to 79.7 years today, putting Saudi Arabia within striking distance of its Saudi Vision 2030 target of 80 years. This extraordinary progress reflects a laser focus on preventive medicine, robust primary healthcare expansion, and proactive early disease detection programs. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health systematically upgraded facility readiness nationwide to handle complex medical needs efficiently.

Digital Revolution Powers Access and Efficiency

National platforms like Sehhaty and the Seha Virtual Hospital have revolutionized patient access through rapid digital transformation, as citizens now enjoy seamless remote consultations and streamlined health services across every region. These innovations dramatically cut wait times while boosting care quality for millions of residents. Consequently, healthcare efficiency metrics have reached world-class benchmarks under the Vision 2030 roadmap.

Saudi Health Minister Fahad Al-Jalajel emphasized that prevention-first policies, primary care empowerment, and digital health integration fuel these historic achievements. “We will intensify efforts to cement Saudi Arabia’s leadership in global health systems,” he pledged, highlighting ongoing commitments to innovation and equity.

Saudi Arabia’s journey demonstrates how strategic vision and technological adoption can rapidly elevate national health outcomes. The Kingdom’s rise sets a powerful example for nations pursuing universal health coverage excellence.
