Saudi Arabia signs the accession document to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia

Prince Faisal bin Farha bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed recently the Kingdom’s document of accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Chair of the current session of the Ministerial Meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is being held In Jakarta.

The Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”, stated that this decision came based on the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister, and their keen desire to continue to strengthen bridges of communication with all countries around the world, and support all aspects of joint coordination, including multilateral action.

According to the agency, the Kingdom’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia is an affirmation of close ties with East Asian countries in many fields.

The Saudi foreign minister praised the distinguished relations between the Kingdom and the ASEAN countries, expressing the keenness of the Kingdom’s leadership to expand the frameworks of cooperation between the Kingdom and the ASEAN countries in many fields and on issues of common concern.

Faisal bin Farhan stressed the importance of this treaty in the field of cooperation in the Southeast Asian region, especially as it is consistent with the principles of the United Nations Charter, noting that close relations with the member states of the treaty will contribute to achieving the aspirations of all countries towards achieving the goals of sustainable development and promoting joint action and creating economic development and economic opportunity for all.
