Saudi Arabia Records 16% Growth in Domestic Tourism for Q1 2026

The Saudi Tourism Ministry has revealed a remarkable 16% growth in domestic tourism during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to the Ministry‘s preliminary data, the number of domestic tourists in Q1 2026 reached around 28.9 million. Meanwhile, the total domestic tourism spending recorded SAR 34.7 billion, accounting for an 8% increase.

These figures underscore strong local demand and its pivotal role in driving the growth of Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry.

Furthermore, the growth in demand continued despite the shifting regional landscape, highlighting the diversified drivers of tourism demand and the resilience of the Saudi tourism sector in navigating crises while ensuring market stability and a steady flow of visitors.

The data also revealed that the total domestic and inbound tourist arrivals during Q1 2026 reached approximately 37.2 million, while the total tourism spending amounted to SAR 82.7 billion.

In terms of occupancy rates, the preliminary data for Q1 2026 showed a nationwide hospitality occupancy rate of 59%, with Madinah recording the highest occupancy at 82%, followed by Makkah and Jeddah at 60% and 59%, respectively.

Moreover, domestic tourism showed strong performance during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr school holidays. The data indicated 10.0 million local tourists over the holiday period, marking a 14% growth rate. Meanwhile, domestic tourism expenditure totaled SAR 10.2 billion, reflecting a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.

Domestic leisure tourism recorded a vibrant activity during this season, driven by the Saudi Tourism Authority’s promotional campaign which offered tailored packages in coordination with the private sector for resorts in the Red Sea, Jeddah, and AlUla.

According to the Ministry, the robust domestic demand and diversification ensure Saudi tourism’s resilience, stability, and sustained growth despite regional fluctuations.
