Saudi Arabia Provides Stranded GCC Travelers with 2,500 Hotel Rooms in Mecca
The Mecca Chamber of Commerce has designated 2,500 fully serviced hotel rooms to host citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries who are stranded at Saudi airports following the widespread air closures, according to Gulf News.
This generous initiative aligns with a directive from King Salman bin Abdulaziz, approving the accommodation of GCC nationals and ensuring their safety and comfort until they can return home.
King Salman has also urged relevant authorities to take all necessary procedures to assist and support those impacted by travel disruptions.
Several airlines across the Middle East and South Asia including Saudia, Emirates Airline, and Qatar Airways have abruptly suspended, canceled, or rerouted flights as US-Israel strikes on Iran forced widespread airspace closures.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
Abdulmohsen Al Ajlan, Chairman of the Hotels and Tourism Committee, affirmed that the hotel rooms have been fully prepared, complete with essential services, to offer comfortable accommodation and comprehensive care for the guests.
He also noted that the move stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s dedication to providing support to its Gulf partners in times of need, while emphasizing that Mecca remains open to all those seeking assistance.
