Saudi Arabia prohibits marriage under the age of 18

The Saudi Ministry of Justice notified all courts that no marriage contract would be made for those under the age of 18, subject to legal accountability.

The Ministry affirmed that the executive regulations of the child protection system stipulated that “before the conclusion of the marriage contract, it is necessary to ensure that marrying a person under the age of 18 will not harm him and achieve his best interests, whether male or female.”

The latest notification came in response to inquiries received by the Ministry regarding marriage contracts that were made for those under the age of 18.

The demanded that all cases that come to the authorized persons of marriage contracts and courts be referred to the competent court for consideration.
