Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Sign Memorandum to Support Digital Economy

 

The Kingdom has signed with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, a memorandum in the field of communications and information technology.

The agreement has been signed by Federal Minister of IT and Telecom DR. Umar Saif and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alsawaha in Riyadh.

This memorandum aims to promote and encourage cooperation between the two countries in vital area to accelerate digital transformation on the one hand and encourage digital innovation on the other, leading to the development of digital infrastructure and the expansion of the digital economy.

 

Partnership’s Objectives

 

The partnership aims to expand joint work in the fields of digital economy, evaluate and qualify appropriate information technology companies in both countries, and develop joint training programmes to build capacity and access competencies in the field of communications and information technology, through the establishment of innovation centres for advanced technologies, centres of excellence and university branches in both countries.

In addition, it will strengthen the cooperation of the SME system and start-ups, sharing information related to policies, technologies, regulations and legislation in the field of digitization and electronic manufacturing.

Cooperation in Electronic Governance

The two sides will also promote cooperation in the areas of e-governance, smart infrastructure, e-health, e-education, strengthening partnership in the field of digital research and innovation and the use of emerging technologies, such as: (artificial intelligence, IoT, robotics, gaming and blockchain), as well as deepening cooperation in R&D and innovation through joint research in the field of communications and emerging technologies.

 

Prospects for cooperation between the two countries

It will also support the creation and exploration of joint innovative mechanisms and methodologies to enable entrepreneurs and enterprises in the Kingdom and Pakistan.

This will help to expand technical investments and venture capital, develop digital infrastructure by enhancing connectivity, including fiber optic networks, data centers , as well as participation in international events.
