Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of a global alliance to support the two-state solution for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The initiative, named the “Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution,” was unveiled by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan. This announcement took place during a ministerial meeting at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
A Push for Peace Amid Crisis
Prince Faisal emphasized the urgency of ending the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. He highlighted the serious violations committed by Israeli forces in the West Bank and expressed concern over the threats to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Saudi Minister condemned the policies of occupation, warning that they fuel extremism and perpetuate conflict.
“The killing of civilians, forced displacement, and destruction can never be justified as self-defense,” Prince Faisal stated. He also stressed that the systematic torture, including sexual violence and other documented crimes, must end immediately.
Lebanon Conflict and Regional Risks
Prince Faisal also raised alarms about escalating tensions in Lebanon. He warned that the situation could ignite a broader regional conflict, putting the entire Middle East at risk.
“We are witnessing a significant threat of a regional war, affecting not only our region but the world at large,” he said.
In his address, Prince Faisal questioned the credibility of the global system, criticizing the selective application of international law. He called for accountability for those obstructing the peace process. “We stand powerless while war continues, and some persist in violating the most basic human rights,” he noted.
Palestine’s Right to Statehood
The Saudi Foreign Minister reaffirmed that establishing an independent Palestinian state is a fundamental right. He emphasized that this should not be viewed as a negotiable outcome, but as a key foundation for lasting peace. “The recognition of Palestine is essential to breaking the cycle of conflict,” Prince Faisal declared.
Global Support for the Two-State Solution
Saudi Arabia urged other nations to join the alliance and recognize Palestine. Currently, 149 countries have already supported Palestinian statehood. The Minister commended those nations and encouraged more to follow. He stressed that implementing the two-state solution is the only way to ensure security and coexistence in the region.
Prince Faisal concluded by inviting all nations to support the initiative. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia will continue to work tirelessly to create a credible and irreversible pathway toward peace. “This initiative represents our commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the conflict,” he said.
Saudi Arabia’s leadership in launching this international coalition signals a renewed global effort to resolve one of the world’s longest-standing conflicts. The alliance aims to provide a clear framework for the establishment of a Palestinian state, ensuring peace and stability for the entire region.
