Saudi Arabia Expresses Solidarity with Venezuela Over Earthquake Tragedy

Saudi Arabia on Thursday extended its condolences to the families of those killed in Venezuela and wished a quick recovery to those injured in the earthquakes that hit the South American nation, according to Al-Arabiya English.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed its sincere solidarity with Venezuela during these difficult circumstances, hoping for the safe return of those reported missing to their families.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the sincere condolences and sympathy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the families of the victims, and to the government and people” of Venezuela, a statement read.

Two powerful earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela’s coast within seconds of each other, toppling buildings in Caracas and forcing residents to rush out into the streets.

President of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, announced that the death toll from the twin earthquakes has risen to at least 188, with a further 1,520 people injured.

The two earthquakes could become the most destructive in Venezuela’s modern history.
