The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has recently launched new accessibility enhancements for elderly worshippers during Ramadan.
The authority has dedicated special prayer areas across the mosque and equipped them with Qurans and Zamzam water, according to Gulf News.
As for men with disabilities, the authority has also designated the following spaces:
- First floor near Gate 91
- First floor opposite Shubaika Bridge at Gate 68
- The southern courtyard near Ajyad Bridge
- The western courtyard at Shubaika
- Two locations in the Saudi Third Expansion near Gate 123
Meanwhile, allocated spaces for women’s prayer are the following locations:
- Gate 88 on the ground floor
- Gate 65 on the first floor in Shubaika
- Prayer Area 15 overlooking the Kaaba
- The southern courtyard at Ajyad Bridge
- The western courtyard at Shubaika
- The eastern courtyard
To ensure easy navigation throughout the mosque’s facilities, the authority has installed wheelchair ramps and marked designated lanes with clear signage.
Furthermore, the authorities have labeled service areas with directional signs and provided worshippers with a valuable opportunity to request both manual and electric carts for mobility assistance.
