Saudi Arabia announces support for G20’s global pandemic initiative
Finance Minister Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan stressed the importance of cooperation between the health and finance ministers of the G20 in mobilizing efforts to build a basis for preventing and preparing for future pandemics.
He stressed the importance of the health system’s resilience remaining the basis for future action to prevent and respond to pandemics, and in his speech during the first meeting of the joint finance and health ministers of the G20 held under the Indonesian presidency.
He referred to the main role of the Financial Intermediation Fund and the strengthening of health and financial coordination of the G20.
The group has a role in shaping the health and financial future.
It is worth noting that the meetings of the finance and health ministers of the G20 began during the Japanese presidency in the year 2019 and continued during the Saudi presidency, intending to address the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19),
The leaders of G20 countries committed during the extraordinary meeting to increase support for the prevention of pandemics and to close potential gaps.
During the Italian presidency, a working group of the G20 was launched consisting of experts from the ministries of finance and health, following the Kingdom’s recommendation, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and other international related organizations.
