Qemam Mountain Performing Arts Festival Brings down Its Curtains

Yesterday, the third edition of the Qemam Mountain Performing Arts Festival, held in the Asir area from January 20 to 27, came to an end.

Notably, Asir witnessed several festivals and bouquets of activities that emphasize mountain performing arts throughout the Kingdom and beyond.

Qemam Festival shed light on Asir’s history by use of instructive workshops and cultural talks.

Moreover, it introduced the significance of ancient mountain performing arts in many cultures domestically and globally to tourists and locals.

 

Sultan Al-Bazie Opinion about Qemam Mountain Performing Arts Festival

Sultan Al-Bazie, CEO of the Theatre and Performing Arts Authority, expressed gratitude to all attendees.

Additionally, he appreciated the hard work in ensuring the success of this cultural event, both from inside and beyond KSA.

He affirmed that the festival saw an improvement as it enabled the attendees to enjoy local and worldwide theatrical performances.

The festival featured several cultural activities that showcased Asir’s historical features and the customs of performing arts practiced by the locals.

Moreover, it also included shops selling gifts and antiques and introduced regional cuisine, lodging facilities, art exhibition spaces, and kid-friendly activities.

 

Different Bands in Qemam Mountain Performing Arts Festival

On the last day, Saudi bands international bands participated in a funfair march down Prince Sultan Road in Khamis Mushait. The bands played while dressed in costumes featuring forty colors of the mountains.

The event included 45 different performance bands from across the world in addition to Saudi performers each day.

The bands displayed their art in historical villages including:

  • Basta Al-Qabil
  • Shamsan Castle
  • Bin Adwhan
  • Bin Hamsan

 

Topics of Symposiums in Festival

Culturally speaking, several symposiums were held covering topics such as:

  • The traditional heritage of peoples
  • The culture of the land and mountains
  • The mountain art in the Maghreb
  • The relationship between performing arts and anthropology
  • The history of the dabke

Outcome of Festival

The various activities at the third Qemam International Festival for Mountain Performing Arts had many benefits. It included:
