Prince Abdulaziz Al-Faisal chairs the general meeting of the Islamic Solidarity Union
The Fifth Islamic Solidarity Sports Games were held today in the Turkish city of Konya, it is the 11th General Assembly and it was presided over by Prince Abdulaziz Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports and President of the Federation.
Prince Fahd the leader of the Saudi delegation that attended the meeting, the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Muhammed Muharram Kasaboglu, and the representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Secretary General, Tariq Bakhit, were also present.
In his opening speech, the Emir expressed his thanks and appreciation to the wise leadership for the unlimited support for the activities and programs of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation from its establishment in 1980 until today, to advance it to achieve its goals and mission.
He stressed that this session embodies the lofty goals of the Federation, which focus on consolidating the principles of non-discrimination between religions, races, and colors, strengthening the bonds of sports principles, and working to advance the sports and Olympic movement in the countries of the Islamic world.
Prince Abdulaziz Al-Faisal drew attention to the formation of the Institutional Review Committee; intending to lay new foundations for the renaissance of the federation from an institutional point of view, and forming the Games Committee to benefit from the experience of “Konya 2021”.
His Highness called for the establishment of an extraordinary electoral general assembly in the last quarter of this year, to adopt the new road map, declaring his desire to run for a new presidential term for the union.
The Prince extended his thanks and appreciation to the Republic of Turkey, represented by the generous hospitality and good reception, and for embracing this important Islamic session.
After the assembly’s work, His Highness the President, His Excellency the Turkish Minister of Sports, the Governor of Konya, Vahiddin Ozkan, and the Mayor of Konya Municipality Ugur Altay signed the protocol (Konya 2022 Capital of the Islamic World).
