President of UNCHR stresses Saudi’s keen of human rights

The President of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, affirmed Saudi Arabia’s determination to continue to promote and protect human rights.


She also emphasized Saudi Arabia’s awareness of the importance of respecting cultural diversity and equality between people.


The leadership, represented by King Salman, his crown prince, and Prince Muhammad, is keen to take care of people and make them a priority.


This came during her presidency today of the Saudi delegation to the meetings of the high-level segment of the 52nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.


Speech of Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri in the Council

Al-Tuwaijri said in the Saudi speech: Today we are witnessing the seventy-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is the basis for all human rights.


She added we affirm that the promotion of human rights requires unremitting efforts, and to realize transformations on the ground.


Al-Tuwaijri stated KSA is witnessing historical transformations represented in many developments in various fields of human rights.

She added that this had a great impact on development and the quality of life.


She noted what KSA is witnessing today is unprecedented reforms, its main focus is the human being.


Dr. Hala also indicated that Saudi Arabia has worked to develop its legislative system.

She mentioned the Saudi issuing and amending of many legislations that included the evidence system and the personal status system.


Low unemployment rate


D. Al-Tuwaijri said that the kingdom recorded, with regard to the right to work, a significant decrease in the unemployment rate.

She mentioned that during the period from 2016 to 2022, the unemployment rate decreased from 11.6% to 5.8%.


The national policy was also issued to encourage equal opportunities and equal treatment in employment.

The new policy aims to eliminate any discrimination in this field.


Humanitarian Efforts


Her Excellency praised the humanitarian efforts made by the Kingdom, including its keenness to stand by the affected people of the Syrian, Turkish, and Yemeni peoples.


She also pointed to the Kingdom’s willingness to mediate in resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

Dr. Hala mentioned the contribution of the crown prince in mediation to the release of many prisoners.
