OIC Rights Commission Discusses Human Rights Violations
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)‘s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) convened its 22nd regular session. The meeting, under the theme “Reforms for a Better Future,” focused on human rights violations and was held at the OIC’s headquarters in Jeddah. It witnessed the participation of Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri, the commission’s president, and Yousef Al-Dobeay, OIC assistant secretary-general for political affairs.
Addressing Racial Intolerance: An Islamic and Human Rights Perspective
Al-Dobeay’s opening address emphasized the elimination of racial discrimination from both an Islamic and human rights standpoint. The also session highlighted the adverse effects of racial intolerance on social equality and overall societal cohesion. Al-Dobeay recognized the OIC’s role in guiding member states towards human rights compliance, harmonizing these with Islamic values.
Accordingly, the meeting served as a reminder to the Muslim world of Islam’s deep respect for human rights. Mohammed Sulaiman, IPHRC chairperson, emphasized Islam’s stance on racial equality. He also asserted that Islam does not distinguish between individuals based on race.
The OIC’s Pivotal Role in Combating Racism
Moreover, the OIC and its member states continue to be at the forefront of anti-racism efforts. It sets the standard measures to effectively combat this issue. Additionally, the emphasis was on the need for consistent and unified actions against racial discrimination.
