New Route Between Doha and Abha, More Flights to NEOM, ACP Says

The Saudi Air Connectivity Program (ACP) has welcomed the strong presence of Qatar Airways in Saudi Arabia by launching a new destination in Abha and increasing flights to NEOM, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

New Route

In collaboration with key stakeholders in the aviation sector and Aseer Development Authority, Qatar Airways will operate two weekly flights to Abha International Airport, starting from January 2, 2025.

The authorities also announced that the number of flights to NEOM will be doubled from two to four weekly flights throughout the winter season.

ACP CEO Majid Khan said that the new route between Abha and Doha further boosts the tourism strategy to bring Saudi Arabia’s unlimited tourism potential closer to the World.

“We express our delight that World’s Best Airline, voted by Skytrax, will commence direct scheduled flights to Saudi Arabia’s beautiful Aseer region and the city of Abha and increase frequencies to Neom. Tourists will fly with Qatar Airways’ large network from 170 destinations globally to Abha and Neom via Doha Hub,” he added.

Currently, Abha International Airport can handle 1.1 million passengers, while the new airport will accommodate 13 million passengers annually fostering Aseer’s position as a perfect tourist destination throughout the year.

“Aseer aims to be a global destination throughout the year. The new route will have a positive impact on the Kingdom’s tourism sector,” the acting CEO of the Aseer Region Development Authority, Hashim Al-Dabbagh.

Air Connectivity Program

Launched in 2021, the Air Connectivity Program aims primarily at boosting the growth of Saudi tourism. Consequently, the Kingdom has embarked on a serious journey to link the Saudi Arabia with various countries around the world through launching several air routes to link the Kingdom to new global destinations.
