Netanyahu Voices Solidarity with Iranian Protesters

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that his country stands firmly beside the Iranian people as sweeping protests rocked several cities in Iran this week, according to AFP.

“We stand in solidarity with the struggle of the Iranian people and with their aspirations for freedom, liberty and justice,” Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting.

Protests in Iran erupted last Sunday, sparked by shopkeepers striking over economic concerns.

The demonstrations began as a localized act of defiance but then turned into a nationwide movement as Iranians started to rise bold political demands.

“It is very possible that we are standing at a moment when the Iranian people are taking their destiny into their own hands,” Netanyahu said.

Longtime adversaries Iran and Israel waged a 12‑day conflict in 2025, after Israel launched airstrikes on nuclear facilities and even residential areas.

The airstrikes sought to destroy Iran’s atomic research and ballistic missile ambitions.

In response, Iran retaliated with waves of drone and missile strikes against Israel.

As the fighting intensified, the United States became involved in the conflict after targeting Iranian nuclear sites before a ceasefire was reached.

On Sunday, Netanyahu turned his focus to Tehran’s nuclear ambitions during his visit to the US for official talks with US President Donald Trump.

“We reiterated our shared position of zero enrichment on the one hand, and the need, of course, to remove the 400 kilograms of enriched material from Iran and subject the sites to strict and genuine oversight,” Netanyahu said.
