The Unified Transport Center in Makkah, on behalf of the Royal Commission for the City of Makkah, has begun the second phase of the Makkah Bus Project’s free trial operation.
The testing phase will take place on lines 6, 7, and 12, which serve as an extension of the Lake District, connecting the central region around the Holy Mosque, the Haramain Express train, and Umm Al-Qura University.
According to the administration, these new routes will serve the people and visitors of Makkah on a bigger scale.
The commencement of the project’s second phase of trial operation is a step toward bettering regional public transportation integration and contributing to the national strategy for transportation and logistics services’ goal of 15% use by 2030.
Following the success of the trial operation of the first bus route, Hajj pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims during the holy month of Ramadan will benefit for the first time from this new service.
By the conclusion of the calendar year 2022, all bus lines will be operational.
