Crown Prince Receives Prime Minister of State of Kuwait

HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman AlSaud received Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait. The event took place at the Salman’s office in Jeddah. Al-Sabah expressed his gratitude to the Crown Prince for the warm hospitality and gracious reception.

Crown Prince & Sabah Review Historical Ties & Future Cooperation

During the meeting, both sides delved into the rich historical ties that have long characterized the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. These fraternal relations, rooted in shared values, cultural affinities, and mutual respect, have served as a strong foundation for cooperation and collaboration over the years.

The discussions included an in-depth review of past collaborations and joint endeavors, highlighting the successes and lessons learned from previous initiatives. They emphasized the importance of building upon this historical legacy to further strengthen bilateral ties and deepen cooperation across a spectrum of sectors.

Previous Visit from the Kuwaiti Side

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait visited the Kingdom in January. This visit underscored the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two Gulf nations. The visit reflected the longstanding relationship between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, highlighting their shared commitment to regional stability, prosperity, and cooperation.

During the visit, economic cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. Moreover, both countries explored opportunities for bolstering trade and investment ties, enhancing economic integration, and promoting joint ventures.

In this visit, a new joint statement on Saudi-Kuwaiti discussions was issued.  They agreed to increase the facilities to facilitate Saudi investments in Kuwait across a variety of fields. These fields include logistics, industrial, and communications. KSA has welcomed the growth of Kuwaiti business and investments, as it seeks to capitalize on chances in massive projects.

Both countries expressed gratitude for the cybersecurity MoU and emphasized the significance of increasing cooperation in this area. They also commended the railway project that would link the two nations and promote commerce and economic expansion. Additionally, both nations praised OPEC+’s effective efforts to improve the stability of the world oil markets in their joint statement on the Saudi-Kuwaiti meetings.

Crown Prince Visits Kuwait

Besides, the Crown Prince embarked on a landmark visit to Kuwait in 2021. The visit carried profound significance, as it highlighted the strong historical ties and fraternal bonds that have long united the two Gulf nations. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Kuwait reaffirmed the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The visit served as a testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the Saudi-Kuwaiti partnership.

Saudi-Kuwaiti Coordination Council

Established in 2018, the Saudi-Kuwaiti Coordination Council reflects the strong relations between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The council aims to:

  • Encourage collaboration and integration in the domains of political, security, and military.
  • Develop a common vision that upholds the goals of the “Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf” and promotes and preserves bilateral partnerships.
  • Bolster the system of integrated economics.
  • Discover innovative methods to maximize the usage of the resources that are now accessible.
  • Build a system of education that is effective and interconnected.

Principal Areas of Collaboration between Kuwait & Saudi Arabia

Saudi-Kuwaiti cooperation is making remarkable progress in business, trade, investment, energy, education, culture, sports, media, health, tourism, security, defense, and human development. This is facilitated by reciprocal visits of the representatives and officials from the two countries. Additionally, the signing of memoranda, agreements, and cooperative programs aided in this collaboration.

Background about Trade Ties between KSA & Kuwait

Official data indicates that in 2021, there was a total of 6.993 billion riyals in commerce between the two Gulf states. A total of 1.609 billion riyals were imported, compared to 5.384 billion riyals in products exported. Greater bilateral business exchange between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait is a shared goal.
