The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to provide $25 million in food aid to the most vulnerable families in Yemen.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the agreement was part of the OIC Donor Conference to Support Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad region.
It was signed by Dr. Ziyad Meemish, Senior Advisor for Medical and Humanitarian Research at KSrelief, and Carl Skau, WFP’s Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.
The deal aims to distribute 13,798 tons of essential food items and establish and rehabilitate resources that support the food chain over six cycles.
They include rehabilitating agricultural lands, building water barriers, and providing fishermen with the necessary equipment.
Therefore, the program will directly benefit 546,364 individuals and indirectly assist a further 57,313 people in the governorates of Hudaydah, Dhale, Marib, Al-Bayda, Hadhramaut, Al-Mahrah, and Socotra.
The current cooperation stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to tackling the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen and alleviating the suffering of its people.
Moreover, it further supports food security efforts in the region.
Supervisor-general of KSrelief, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah held several meetings and discussions on the sidelines of the conference.
Al-Rabeeah met with Skau and they delved into the latest developments in KSrelief-WFP projects, which focus on providing essential food aid and improving living conditions in vulnerable communities.
Interestingly, Skau commended Saudi Arabia’s pivotal humanitarian role and its promising initiatives to assist needy people and communities around the world.
