Saudi, US FMs Discuss Regional Crises and Humanitarian Efforts

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, received a phone call from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. They discussed the ongoing regional escalation, focusing on the situation in Lebanon. Efforts to address these developments were highlighted during their conversation, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Focus on Lebanon’s Security and Humanitarian Crisis

During the call, both officials emphasized the need for full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This would allow civilians on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border to safely return to their homes. They also discussed ongoing international efforts to fund and support the Lebanese Armed Forces, stressing the importance of maintaining international backing for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

In addition, they addressed the urgent humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Blinken highlighted the recent U.S. announcement of nearly $157 million in aid to help with the crisis response. Both ministers expressed their commitment to continue addressing Lebanon’s security and humanitarian challenges.

Efforts for a Ceasefire in Gaza

The conversation also touched on the Gaza conflict. Blinken and Prince Faisal discussed efforts to reach a durable ceasefire. Their goal is to release all hostages and increase humanitarian aid to alleviate civilian suffering in the region. Blinken expressed gratitude to the Saudi government for its critical role in addressing regional and global challenges.

The ongoing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States underscores their commitment to resolving pressing issues across the Middle East.
