King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) participated in the 42nd IASP World Conference on Science Parks and Areas of Innovation, held in Beijing, China, from September 16–19. The participation underscores KACST’s commitment to strengthening its position as a key player in the global innovation ecosystem.
At the event, KACST showcased its strategic shift from a traditional research institution to a fully integrated innovation district. Moreover, the organization emphasized its capabilities in driving the economic impact of deep technologies, attracting leading technology companies, and connecting scientific research with priority industry sectors.
KACST also presented its groundbreaking Hexa Innovation Model—a comprehensive framework that unites research, development, and innovation partners. This model is designed to create a collaborative environment that supports startups, accelerates the commercialization of applied research, and delivers sustainable economic value.
In conjunction with the conference, KACST hosted the annual meeting of the Global Innovation Districts Alliance (GIDA), which convened 17 members from 12 countries. The discussions centered on developing robust performance indicators and enhancing cross-border exchanges of talent, technologies, and investment—further reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s leadership in shaping regional and global innovation landscapes.

Additionally, Dr. Khalid Al-Dakkan, KACST’s Senior Vice President of Innovation Parks, held bilateral meetings with international innovation leaders. These discussions explored opportunities for hosting technology companies, developing joint initiatives to connect researchers with investors, and organizing global events to advance technology transfer, localization, and innovation enablement.
