
The second meeting of international geological survey leaders will include heads of agencies from Africa, Asia, and representatives from the USGS, BGS, BRGM, and GTK.
The meeting is scheduled to discuss ways to enhance geological capabilities in the ‘greater region’, extending from Africa to West and Central Asia, to attract more investments. Additionally, there will be discussions on establishing a regional center of excellence to promote innovation, skill development, and technology dissemination in mineral-producing countries.
Centers of Excellence, Technology
On another note, the International Mining Conference is witnessing the first meeting of the Centers of Excellence and Technology. It is one of the initiatives of the international ministerial meeting. This meeting involves several academic institutions, such as specialized institutes and universities. It also aims to establish a regional network that targets capacity building in the “Greater Region” to ensure its leadership in the minerals sector.
The Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs, Eng. Khalid Al-Mudaifer, confirmed in a statement regarding this matter the importance of the two meetings in highlighting the vast mineral resources that the greater region possesses.
Al-Mudaifer added that the participants in these two meetings will work on developing effective strategies for exploring and developing these resources sustainably, with a focus on employing the latest technologies and exchanging global expertise.
International Mining Conference
The fourth edition of the International Mining Conference and the International Ministerial Meeting will be held from January 14 to 16 next year at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh.
