Jeddah is set to open a new chapter in electric motorsport as the Red Sea city gears up to host the opening rounds of the 2026–2027 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
What Makes This Season Different?
Tickets are now on sale for the Jeddah E-Prix, which will take place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on December 18 and 19.
More boldly, the event will mark the first time Jeddah hosts the championship’s season-opening rounds, bringing the world’s top electric racing teams and drivers to the Kingdom for the beginning of a new Formula E season.
Adding to the excitement, Jeddah will also host the global competitive debut of GEN4, Formula E’s most powerful car yet. It can produce up to 600 kW of power and reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 1.8 seconds.
Moreover, the season will introduce “E-Prix Unleashed,” a new race format joining the traditional E-Prix races. Both Jeddah rounds will take place at night under floodlights, giving the event an added visual appeal.
The excitement will extend beyond the racing action, with a dedicated fan zone offering interactive experiences, family activities and post-race performances.
How Is Formula E Supporting Vision 2030?
By hosting the opening rounds of the championship, Saudi Arabia is further strengthening its pivotal role in shaping the future of motorsport and welcoming major global championships, according to Eng. Mansour Almokbel, Acting CEO of SAMF.
Hosting the Formula E season opener is also anticipated to draw large numbers of international visitors, support local tourism and put Jeddah’s modern infrastructure in the spotlight.
The event further reflects the Kingdom’s drive to elevate sustainable mobility and innovation in line with the ambitious objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.
More significantly, the event will also spotlight local talent and businesses while further establishing Saudi Arabia as a global sports and entertainment hub. The night races and GEN4’s competitive debut will attract international media attention.
Saudi Arabia’s Motorsport Rise
The roar of international motorsport has become an increasingly familiar sound in Saudi Arabia.
Since 2018, the Kingdom has hosted Formula E, while the Jeddah Corniche Circuit has positioned itself as a major racing venue, previously hosting Formula 1 events.
The 3.001-kilometer street circuit, featuring 19 turns, will now welcome a new generation of electric racing as the setting for Formula E’s season opener.
This milestone stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s outstanding presence in global motorsport while contributing to Vision 2030’s ambitions for economic diversification and tourism.
