Israeli settlers attacked four foreigners and robbed all their personal belongings on Sunday in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to AFP.
The international activists, three Italians and a Canadian, were treated at a Jericho hospital and then discharged.
Blatant Attack
The Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “three Italian international volunteers were attacked last night by Israeli settlers.” It added that they are shocked from what had happened.
“Four foreigners arrived at the hospital this morning after being beaten by settlers, according to what they reported,” Riyad Eid, Director of the Jericho Government Hospital.
Eid noted that the activists came to the hospital on Sunday with some of them suffering from bruises on the face, and on the chest, and one of them was beaten in a sensitive area.
He further assured that medical teams had examined them, conducted X-rays and ultrasound scans, and gave them the needed treatment.
Masked Settlers
One of the activists told AFP that they were three people from Italy and one from Canada, staying in the Duyuk area on the western edge of Jericho in the central West Bank.
He added that while they were sleeping at night, 10 masked settlers attacked them; two of them had guns, some of them had sticks.
“They kicked me multiple times in the face, in the ribs, in the hip,” he said.
One of the foreigners also revealed that the attack lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes. The settlers have already stolen their passports, phones, wallets and bank cards.
“We had to have X-rays, painkillers. Our friend was beaten more severely than we were,” he added.
In response, Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “the settlers reportedly entered their home, attacked the volunteers, and stole all their personal belongings.”
Currently, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani is closely following the incident in coordination with Italy’s consul general in Jerusalem.
Violence in West Bank
Violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has been growing since the Hamas attack of October 2023 with increasing number of killings and attacks by settlers and security forces.
OHCHR noted that settlers have launched 757 attacks on Palestinians or their properties since January 2025.
All Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law. However, approximately 1 million Israeli settlers live in illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in violation of international law. Meanwhile, settler outposts are also prohibited under Israeli law.
