Iran Has ‘Technical Ability’ to Build Nuclear Bomb: Official

A senior advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Kamal Kharazi, said (Sunday) that Tehran is technically capable of making a nuclear bomb, but it has not yet decided to implement it.

“Within a few days, we were able to enrich uranium to up to 60% and we can easily produce uranium enriched to 90% … Iran has the technical means to make a nuclear bomb, but it has not yet made a decision to make it,” he said in a press statement quoted by Reuters.

He indicated that his country would never negotiate over its nuclear program and regional policy. He indicated that Tehran would respond directly to Israel if its security was targeted.

The IAEA said that Tehran has increased the level of uranium enrichment at the Fordow facility, which was recently modernized using advanced equipment.

According to the source, Iran has started “running a series of advanced centrifuges” at the Fordow plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency indicated in a report last May that this technical improvement makes it possible to “change the composition of the chain more easily” and quickly switch from one level of enrichment to another.
