Saudi Arabia has emerged as a global leader in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This was reported by a world ranking released by “Tortoise Intelligence,” a company specializing in data analysis and AI. The Kingdom achieved first place in the Government AI Strategy Index which measures over 60 countries. This achievement reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to AI, demonstrated by the establishment of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in 2019. SDAIA leads the national data and AI strategy to fulfill the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
Harvest of Saudi Arabia 2023: Saudi Vision 2030’s AI goals include:
– Achieving the tenth position globally in the Global Innovation Index.
– Increasing investment in AI to SAR 50 billion.
– Creating 200,000 jobs in the AI sector.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Commerce, economic activities in promising sectors have shown steady growth in the first quarter of 2023, with over 3,000 commercial registers issued in these sectors, compared to 232 in the same period in 2022. Riyadh, Makkah, Eastern Province, Medina, and Asir are the regions with the most registrations.
Promising sectors include digital infrastructure, financial technology, electronic payment, logistics and transport, last-mile delivery solutions, and electronic services related to quality of life, such as e-health, e-education, entertainment, and gaming.
One of the most prominent economic activities in promising sectors is game development. The number of registers in this activity grew by 92% in the first quarter of 2023, with over 1,600 registers. Saudi Arabia is a leader in game development, with several successful startups at the regional and global levels.
According to a report by Standard & Poor’s Global, Saudi Arabia is among the top 10 countries worldwide in game development, based on the number of startups and the volume of investments in the sector. This growth is indicative of the rapid development Saudi Arabia is experiencing in AI, in line with its commitment to achieve the targets of Vision 2030.
Harvest of Saudi Arabia 2023: Saudi Arabia’s AI efforts include:
– Numerous research centers specializing in AI, such as at King Abdulaziz University, King Saud University, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
– Collaborations with countries and international entities in AI, including the USA, China, Germany, and Japan.
– Organizing AI-focused conferences and events, like the annual “Tech Valley” conference in Riyadh.
These efforts are a translation of Vision 2030, which aims to make Saudi Arabia a global leader in AI.
