As a key component of Saudi Arabia’s railway network expansion, the Haramain High-Speed Railway is recognized as one of the world’s fastest electric railways, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h. Equipped with advanced signaling and communication systems, the railway was inaugurated in 2018 as a major infrastructure project in the Middle East, designed to offer safe, efficient, and comfortable transportation for pilgrims, Umrah performers, and general travelers.

To manage the heightened demand during Ramadan, Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), in partnership with the operating company, has implemented a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth operations. The railway enables travelers to commute between Makkah and Madinah in just about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
