Governor of Umluj Reviews Report on Activities of Weqaa
Today, the Governor of Umluj met with the General Manager of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plants and Animal Disease Weqaa in the Tabuk region, reported Saudi Press Agency.
During the meeting, the Governor reviewed the annual report of the Center’s activities in the governorate. It included the responsibilities and strategic objectives of the “Weqaya” Center aimed at enhancing plant and animal health.
These efforts contribute to reinforcing food security and developing the agricultural sector.
The report also covered the services provided to farmers, measures to mitigate the risks of pests and diseases, improving the efficiency of early warning systems and emergency response, and the comprehensive efforts to control animal diseases and their vectors. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the activities related to plant and animal health in Umluj Governorate during the year 2023.
Revitalizing Wildlife Populations
In a groundbreaking move, the Prince Mohamed bin Salman Royal Reserve has become the new sanctuary for 85 endangered animals. This significant initiative marks a vital step in wildlife conservation, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving biodiversity.
The animals released into Bin Salman Royal reserve include a diverse array of species, including 20 Arabian oryxes, 40 Arabian gazelles, six Nubian ibexes, and six mountain gazelles. The new residents were facing threats in their natural habitats. Bin Salman Royal Reserve, with its vast and varied ecosystems, offers a safe haven where these animals can thrive.

Moreover, this remarkable achievement is the result of collaboration between international conservation groups and the Saudi Arabian government. The Royal Reserve represents a beacon of hope for endangered species worldwide and for the animals it now houses.
