In an event which considered the most prominent in the current period, a “remote” press conference was held to announce the path and details of the 2021 Saudi Dakar Rally, with the participation of the Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Auto and Motorcycle Federation Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, ASO CEO Yan Lumonier and Dakar Rally Director David Castera.
All the new updates that the Dakar Rally will witness for the first time in its history, as well as the new track of the rally and the starting and ending points, and many important details, have been announced during the press conference after the previous version that achieved a great success at all levels and standerds. It has witnessed a great media follow-up at the world level. After the race was broadcast over 190 channels from different countries of the world, and it was covered on more than 1100 news and sports sites.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Sport Minister , said during the press conference: We celebrate together the return of the Dakar Rally to Saudi Arabia and we remember all the challenges that we faced in the first version and the successes that we have achieved at various levels. We realize that the task is great, and that we must excel ourselves to achieve the best version of the Dakar Rally , and announce a new path to be more exciting and exciting.
Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al Faisal, Chairman of Directors Board of Saudi Federation of Cars and Motorcycles, stated: “We are proud and happy to host the 2021 Dakar Rally for the second year in a row, which is the biggest challenge that contestants face to win this exciting and difficult rally, and version has 2020 witnessed many successes.
David Casteira, director of the Dakar Rally, revealed that the path will be ready by next January, noting that the preparations for this copy were made through video chats due to the Corona epidemic, stressing that all preparations are going as required; pointing out that the path booklet will be issued every day before the start of tour shortly.
The official account of the Dakar Rally said: The new diversified path, which includes more technical aspects, that challenge participants to compete between sand dunes from the first day to the last .Red Sea beaches offer a stage for competitions with the rise of roaring engines and the intensification of the battles that will not be resolved except in the last seconds. The marathon stage is the hardest of all and will test the flexibility of all drivers, even the most experienced. All drivers in the Quad and Motorbike classes will have to wear an airbag.
On the details of the classic Dakar Rally race, the official account of the rally explained: The drivers participating in this category will be on board of old cars and trucks of the pre-2000 model, and their path will not be different from the rest of the classes.
The Kingdom has witnessed the first edition of the Saudi Dakar Rally 2020 during the period from 5 to 17 January, which was won by Spanish veteran rally contestant Carlos Sainz by winning first place in the car category. The American Rick Brabak won the first place in the motorcycle category, while Chilean Ignasius Casale won the first place in the quad bikes category. On the other hand the Russian Anderi Margenov wonfirst place in truck category, while the American Casey Koray won the first position in the side by side category.
