GAFT Leads Saudi Delegation in GCC-Indonesia Free Trade Agreement Negotiations

The General Authority of Foreign Trade (GAFT), led by Deputy Governor for International Organizations and Agreements and Chairman of the Saudi Negotiating Team Fareed Al-Asaly, is heading Saudi Arabia’s delegation in the second round of negotiations for the free trade agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Indonesia. The talks are being held at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh from February 3 to 6, 2025.

Moreover, the Saudi negotiating team is tasked with steering trade discussions in alignment with the Kingdom’s trade policies and objectives. It also plays a vital role in integrating Saudi Arabia’s positions into the negotiations and collaborating with nations that share similar trade interests.
The delegation includes nine specialized technical teams covering key sectors such as goods, services, investment, general provisions, e-commerce, intellectual property, government procurement, rules of origin, and economic evaluation. Representing approximately 46 government agencies, these teams contribute to shaping Saudi Arabia’s trade strategies, drafting proposals, and reporting on trade agreements and World Trade Organization (WTO) initiatives.

As of Q3 2024, trade between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia stood at approximately $5 billion. Finally, Saudi Arabia’s main exports to Indonesia included mineral and organic chemical products, while Indonesia’s key exports to the Kingdom comprised automobiles, vehicle parts, and animal or vegetable fats and oils.
