French Amb. to Saudi: “Vision 2030 Positions Riyadh among Most Attractive Cities Globally”
Saudi Vision 2030, a strategic framework aimed at reducing Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil and diversifying its economy, is instrumental in transforming Riyadh into one of the most attractive cities globally, stressed the French Ambassador to the Kingdom, Ludovic Pouille. This visionary initiative is not only reshaping the economic landscape but also propelling Riyadh into the global limelight as a desirable destination for investment, tourism, and business operations.
Launched in 2016, Saudi Vision 2030 is a blueprint for the Kingdom’s long-term goals and expectations, a testament to its ambitious economic and societal reforms. One of its pivotal initiatives is the Green Riyadh project, launched in 2019 by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, aiming to propel Riyadh into the list of the top 100 most livable cities worldwide.
This endeavor focuses on enhancing the city’s green spaces, improving air quality, and augmenting the overall well-being of its residents. Moreover, Vision 2030 seeks to transition from a commodities-led economy to a diversified one, invigorating various sectors such as small and medium-sized enterprises, foreign direct investment, tourism, and the private sector.
Moreover, Riyadh’s journey towards this grand vision is already underway, with the spatial footprint of the city expanding from just 64km^2 in 1970 to more than 1,500km^2 in 2020. The population is also on the rise, with a target to reach 15 million by 2030. The Saudi government is backing this transformation with an $800 billion investment program to morph Riyadh into a leading business and cultural hub.
The endorsement from the French ambassador comes as a significant nod to the strides Saudi Arabia is making. During a symposium in Riyadh, the envoy remarked that Vision 2030 positions Riyadh as one of the most attractive cities on the global map, further supporting the Kingdom’s bid to host Expo 2030. The envoy’s sentiment was echoed in a meeting with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, where bilateral relations and common interests between Saudi Arabia and France were discussed.
As Saudi Arabia steers towards the objectives outlined in Vision 2030, the international recognition and support from influential figures like the French envoy accentuate Riyadh’s emerging status on the global stage. The collaborative efforts between Saudi Arabia and international partners are a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering a more open and business-friendly environment, thereby positioning Riyadh as a city of promise and endless opportunities.
