F1: Piastri Outshines Verstappen to Claim Saudi Arabian GP Victory

Oscar Piastri seized a historic win at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, overtaking Red Bull’s Max Verstappen under Jeddah’s dazzling floodlights. The McLaren driver now leads the 2025 World Drivers’ Championship, becoming the first Australian since Mark Webber in 2010 to top the standings.

Race Start Drama Sets the Stage

Piastri’s victory hinged on a bold opening lap. Verstappen triggered controversy by cutting the first chicane, forcing Piastri off-track. The incident earned Verstappen a five-second penalty, which Piastri labeled “decisive” post-race. “Max pushed me wide, but we turned it around,” Piastri said. “Huge credit to the team for flawless strategy.”

Verstappen’s penalty reshaped the race. Despite leading after the safety car restart, his post-pitstop deficit proved insurmountable. “No point discussing it now,” the Dutchman shrugged. “We’ll regroup for Miami.”

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc clinched third, praising his team’s “smart tire calls” on Jeddah’s high-speed circuit.

Teammate Lando Norris rallied from 10th to fourth, gambling on hard tires early. “Starting on hards was risky, but it paid off,” Norris said. Mercedes’ George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top six.

A first-lap collision between Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly triggered a safety car, sidelining both. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton battled to seventh in Ferrari’s upgraded car, trailing teammate Carlos Sainz.
