Diriyah Season: Sneak Peak into Traditional Markets

You don’t need to watch a historical series or read a book narrating history and stories from the life of the ancients who lived in this holy land. It’s enough to visit the Diriyah Season, where ongoing activities and programs aim to introduce the Saudi history and heritage from 300 years ago.

“Akhbar 24” during its tour in the Diriyah Season visited the traditional market. It is an event that simulates what used to happen inside the market corridors in the past. The market was a place where people gathered for shopping and buying necessities.

“Akhbar 24” met with Ms. “Umm Ali,” who told us that the market in the past met the family needs, sold items like coffee pots, coffee grinders.

Noura mentioned that the market also contained items used by women for beautification in the past.

She added that the ancients were keen to buy myrrh from the market, which was their primary treatment. It served as antibiotics today.

Noura noted that all necessities in the traditional market were low-priced. Their prices not exceeding a qirsh or two, and sometimes even half a qirsh.

She added that sellers in the market used to sell on credit. Therefore, they allowed the buyer to pay at the end of the month or when they had the money.
